" WATERMELON SNOW"

http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/7114/258/1600/nieve1.jpg

Have you ever hiked (ido de excursión) in a high mountain and noticed pinkish patches(manchas rosas) , or streaks of red, on the snowbanks?

This phenomenon is especially common during the summer months in the Sierra Nevada of California. The snow even has a fresh watermelon scent (olor) and is sometimes called "watermelon snow." ("nieve sandía"). It's amazing, but it has got a scientist explanation... The pink hue (tonalidad) is caused by an algae (alga) called “chlamydomonas nivalis”. People call it “Watermelon Snow” because it actually has a taste very similar to watermelon. The snow (and the algae) is safe to eat, atleast in reasonable quantities.

It is pretty unbelievable that snow would fall from the sky colored pink, and even more unbelievable that it would be safe to eat and taste like watermelon!!

It's amazing, isn't it??

mmm very interesting! I had never heart about that..
I want to say, going to another thing, that the BBC web has a lot of exercises to learn english playing; http://www.bbc.co.uk/worldservice/learningenglish/quizzes/football/shootout.shtml.
It could be a good idea to enter there and have a good time by learning english.
There one exercise that I like more, Learning-English-Football. You will enjoy it!.

Hello RA!

I'm very happy to see you writing here! I know this is the first time you write a comment... So I hope that after this, you get used to writing in the blog everyday!
Thanks for your comment!

By the way... Why do you want the snow and the water to turn green? I can't understand why...

Hey, i´m Raúl, i want green snow because the green is a very natural color, and if the snow turn green, the snow will be more natural. It´s obvious

It's ok, Ra. It's a very logical answer. hahahaha
